BLINK is excited to feature Luminous Ether, designed by Matt Minard, in its
inaugural year. Luminous Ether is an interactive lighting experience where visitors are immersed in colored light that represents the visualspectrum of what humans see. The power of light and how we see is taken for granted, and this sculpture brings it to the forefront of the visitor’s minds. With the added elements of ambient music and light haze, the experience will remove any dimensions and familiarity to the visitor. This heavy effect of colored light will be tangible and physical where the visitor will experience a loss of “location” and a heightened sense of wonder. Participants may feel an abundance of calm –both mentally and physically –where they no longer need to know where they are, but know they are somewhere. Overall, the theme is to provoke an emotion of how powerful light can be and how light transforms space.
The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) is a national, nonprofit learned society that has a chapter based in Cincinnati. The IESNA’s stated mission is to improve the lighted environment by bringing together those with lighting knowledge and by translating that knowledge into actions that benefit the public. Members of the IESNA are regarded as professionals in their industry and are globally respected for their knowledge. The IESNA builds upon a century of excellence to create the premier lighting community dedicated to promoting the art and science of quality lighting to its members, allied professional organizations, and the public.
We are asking for monetary donations to enable us in creating and bringing our light-based sculpture to life.
